After installing the wampserver 2.5 or later, you will have a icon in your notification bar that shows red, yellowish and green color correspondingly. Shut it off by right click on it and click EXIT.
Go to your file location where it has been installed. For example:
C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.4.9\conf\httpd.conf
You have to modify this “httpd.conf” file. Open it with notepad++
Search for this lines..
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 0.0.0.0:80
Listen [::0]:80
This is the port number that has been primarily set by the server to listen to your site in phpmyadmin. Thats where our problem is. Basically this very port number is also been used by the Windows Web Application Development Service under Services menu. Thats why this port no doesnt work under wampserver software. We need to fix that.
Change the port number according to your choice of four digits. 8000/9000 is much more preferable as these numbers are usually not been used by any servers in windows. Then Save it.
Now go to the following location:
C:\wamp\wampmanager.tpl
C:\wamp\wampmanager.ini
In this two files, we also have to change the port number in order to work perfectly. Open both files via notepad++ and search for http://localhost/. Thats our previous address. Now we need to add our additional port number in it too. Therefore search this address and replace it with http://localhost:8000/ [Assuming you have selected your port address as 8000] . You can search it by pressing CTRL+F and type http://localhost/. in the find tab http://localhost:8000/ in the replace tab.
BAMN!! you have successfully changed the port address. Now hold that breath for a moment. You are not done yet my dear.
As you can see if you run wampserver and click localhost from the notification bar icon, it says http://localhost:8000/ in the address bar of your browser instead of just LOCALHOST. Its port number has been fixed and so the user privilege has been compromised. We need to fix that as well.
Go to phpmyadmin. Then click on the USER tab. Underneath that tab you will find a place for your putting your password. Put your password and retype it and save it in the last.
This time you wont be able to open your phpmyadim at all!!!
Now dont get scared, solution is on the way.
GO to the following locations:
C:\wamp\apps\phpmyadmin4.1.14\config.inc.php
You have to open the file config.inc.php in notepad++
Here you will find the following codes:
/* Authentication type */
$cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘verbose’] = ‘mysql wampserver';
//$cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘auth_type’] = ‘cookie';
$cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘auth_type’] = ‘config';
$cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘user’] = ‘root';
$cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘password’] = ”;
You dont have to worry about it at all. Just comment out the bold line by putting to forward slash in front of that line.
//$cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘auth_type’] = ‘config';
THATS IT! Finally all the procedures has been done. Now when you restart your wampserver you will be asked to put your username and password to enter into phpmyadmin. The username is by default root and the password is just the one you chose in step 7.
